Runners of all ages and abilities can sign up now to join a fun run in Pontypridd this Spring, in aid of Sport Relief.
The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile will be held in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park on Sunday, March 21, 2010, and participants can run, walk or jog a one-mile, three-mile or six-mile route.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Sports Development officers are organising the event and hope up to 500 people will take part. All the money raised by the public through the Sport Relief Mile will be spent by the charity Comic Relief to help transform the lives of poor and vulnerable people at home and across the world. Cllr Robert Bevan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Cabinet Member for Culture and Recreation, said: “We are hoping that people of all ages will sign up for this event.
It promises to be a lot of fun and is an ideal way to raise money for charity. It is also a great way to encourage people to take part in physical activity.” The one-mile race in Ynysangharad Park will get underway at 10.30am on March 21 and the three and six mile races set off at 11.15am. To help you get in shape for the event, running and fitness sessions are taking place in the park on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6.15pm – or why not pop along to your local leisure centre?
