Badly burned from bonfire explosion
Firefighters are urging the public to think of fire safety after a 21 year old from Mynydd Isa was badly burnt when an aerosol exploded in a bonfire.
He was walking past the unattended bonfire and stopped to put it out when the explosion happened.
On his own for about 20 minutes before he managed to make a reverse charges call to his mum, he suffered burns to his hands and face and will need physiotherapy after the terrifying incident last week.
Firefighters have now issued a warning to members of the public to take extra care when lighting bonfires or setting off fireworks.
Steve Cook, fire safety enforcement officer from Flintshire said: “Every year, countless people are badly injured and burnt in the run-up to the bonfire season when lighting bonfires and setting off fireworks. “As we saw on Sunday, dangerous waste material on bonfires can be potentially lethal and fireworks which are not properly controlled or tracked can cause fires which can spread rapidly.”
Mr Cook added: “The best advice I can possibly give is to attend an organised display – this allows the whole family to enjoy the excitement safely from the sidelines."
