Interview Two: Skaters from Holywell Campaigning for a Skate Park
Holywell young people have been on the campaign to secure a skate park in Holywell for approximately seven years. During this time there have been consultation events, petitions collected and visual PR. To date this has still failed to secure a Park for one of Flintshire's main Towns.
At the start of 2011 a new proactive group was formed, the Holywell Skate and Bike Club. This is a group of young people from Holywell who have a passion for gaining a skate park so that they and their peers can enjoy and participate in a sport that is in their heart and soul. Since the groups formation, they have carried out a large public consultation event with the assistance of Holywell Communities First and Flintshire's Leisure Services. They have been on two site visits to different skate parks, one in Denbigh and one in Halifax, both trips funded by Holywell Communities First.
In amongst all of this activity, a presentation has been made to the Town Council on the groups behalf by Kate Inskip and Alex Gray, The Wheeled Sports Officer for Flintshire County Council, where full support was received for the provision of a skate park in Holywell. A site has been identified and has been granted outline planning. These are massive steps towards securing the Skate Park and although there is still a long way to go, huge inroads have been made and the future looks promising
