Chapter 3: The Tiger King
Chris and Tom left at that moment and with saying goodbye out of the way and their bags on their backs they walked off into the jungle. They walked for hours and hours until they got to the temple. Chris walked over to one of the walls and started to read the inscriptions that had been engraved onto it. Tom walked over to join him and was utterly bamboozled by the weird writing.
“This is the writing of Mirrarsten. It is the language I was going to teach you before we left but seeing as you were in such a hurry to leave I didn’t have a chance,” said Chris.
“What do they say?”
“They say that all who enter uninvited will perish. But don’t be scared I’ve been here loads of times and nothing has ever happened to me.”
“Let’s see what’s behind there.”
“No wait!”
Tom pushed a door open and a huge spear came out of the wall and missed him by an inch.
“That is why you read before you enter a room.”
“Sorry.”
“I’ll go first and you follow. Don’t touch anything.”
They walked through five more rooms each of which had a booby trap. When they got to the next room the writing on the walls said that all who are curious will die. As Chris and Tom were curious as to what was in the room they supposedly will die.
“What do you think is in there?” asked Tom.
“I think it is a treasure but there’s only one way to find out.”
Chris pushed the door open and three spears flew from each side of the wall. He ducked under and dodged all of them and Tom was left with a face like a smacked ass because of the amazement of what Chris had just done. When they had made sure there were no more booby traps they made their way forward to the alter and there lying in pristine condition was a sword engraved with the words 'ano cantashon'.
“What do the words mean?” asked Tom.
“Well if I’m reading these correctly I believe they mean 'Battle Fury'." Chris picked up the sword and looked at it for a minute or two. “Here catch!”
“What? Don’t you want it?”
“Nah,” said Chris, “I’ve got my own in my bag.”
Chris turned around and inside his bag was a sword of magnificent beauty almost as beautiful as the one Tom was now holding. Tom reached into his bag and fashioned a sword holdall out of his strap. He attached the sword to his side and followed Chris out of the room. Just as they closed the door they turned around to see a great big man dressed in cloth with two huge tigers next to him. Tom and Chris wondered how he was able to control the tigers. But soon they realised that he was the Tiger King of legend and that he was able to control the tigers by thought. He stood there for about a minute looking at Tom and Chris and appeared to be examining them. Then he spoke. “Who are you?”
Chris and Tom answered with the words of their names and also said “We are the inhabitants of the beach of the island of time.”
“Why are you here?”
“We are here because we needed to know some information about the Time King,” said Chris.
“Why do you want to know about the Time King? Nobody can defeat him.”
“Ah well we believe we can.”
The Tiger King laughed “How do you expect to defeat him? No person on this island has the power to defeat him unless the one of the prophecy is with him or her but as I see..."
Chris cut him off. “We are the chosen ones. We came here from the land called Earth and we both posses the power to defeat the Time King."
The Tiger King looked shocked. “Well if I had known that in the beginning then I never would have questioned you. Follow me.”
Tom and Chris followed the Tiger King to his kingdom, which was just a load of houses in the top of trees. When they all got to the top the Tiger King beckoned to one of his tiger servants to get him some water and remarkably the tiger stood up and walked off to get him some water. Two or three minutes passed and the servant came back with a jug full of water. The servant bowed said something in Mirrarsten and backed off waiting to be beckoned for something else.
“If there is anything me and my army can do to help you then please let us know.” Tom and Chris shook their heads. "Well if not then one of my servants will take you to your quarters. Then you can leave at first light.” He beckoned to his servant to take them to their room and to bring them whatever they wanted.
On their way to their rooms Tom said to Chris “That Tiger King, yeah, well he seems a lot like my brother Ben.”
“Well that’s most probably because he is your brother Ben.”
“Well at least I know where he is now.”
“Yeah,” said Chris, “but getting him on his own for just five minutes to try and convince him he’s your brother will be difficult. I mean with all those tigers guarding him.”
“Yeah, but what if those tigers were distracted by something else, by something more appealing than a thirteen-year-old boy with not so much meat on him?"
“Oh no,” said Chris, “there is no way on Earth that you will make me distract those tigers.”
“Ah,” said Tom, “one problem with your argument there. We’re not on Earth.”
Chris stood there with an annoyed look on his face. “What do you want me to do?” Tom started explaining the plan to him. “OK I’ll do it as long as you're no more than five minutes.”
“Agreed,” said Tom, slightly chuckling. They put their plan into action at the first stroke of midnight.
“Right then,” said Chris, “are you ready?”
“Ready as I’ll ever be!” said Tom.
“OK, on the count of three we go for it one, two, three!” and at that moment Chris jumped out at the guards of Ben’s room and started to shake his bum at them. They were instantly hypnotized at the two chunks of meat in front of them and started to run at him. At that moment he closed his eyes and said “tigresso!” and pointed at them. At the moment of him pointing at them they stopped dead in their tracks and dozed off to sleep.
“Now!” Chris said to Tom and with all the guards asleep Tom ran at full speed to the doors to Ben’s room and burst in. Ben woke up and was about to call for more guards when he had a hand slapped over his mouth to prevent him from doing so. Tom knew that to remind Ben of who he was he would have to unlock Ben’s deepest memories of Tom and his family.
“Now,” said Tom, “I know you will find it hard to believe but I am your younger brother.” Ben's face was giving the illusion that he was very confused, which Tom thought would actually be what he was thinking. Tom took his hand off of his brother’s mouth.
“What are you talking about? The brothers I had were taken from my mother at birth and given to farmers and kings to pay for her taxes,” Ben said.
“How many brothers did you have?”
“I believe I had five brothers”
“And what were their names?”
“Their names were Tom, Phill, Mikey and I had two little brothers who were twins and their names were Simon and Stuart.”
“Just what I thought,” said Tom, “I have five brothers as well and their names are exactly the same as yours.”
“It’s just a coincidence,” said Ben.
“Yes maybe it is but is it a coincidence for their age to go up in the exact same order.”
“You’re lying.”
“Look into my eyes and see if I’m lying,” said Tom, “come on Ben, can't you remember me, all the times you spent punching me and beating me up?”
“Oh my God,” said Ben, “I think I actually remember you.”
All of a sudden he started to shake and the spirit of the real Tiger King came out of him and stood in the middle of the room.
“Thank you Thomas I am so grateful you reminded your brother of who he is. Now I can go back to sleep and be at peace with the world. Ben will have my powers until you leave this world.” And then he faded away.
“Wow”, said Ben, “what just happened to me?”
“Well if you’ve got a moment I’ll explain.”
Ben was absolutely speechless. “So do I have the power to control tigers with my mind then.”
“I believe you do,” said Chris.
“Cool!” said Ben with a slight grin on his face.
