The UK's 700,000 disabled children face disproportionate discrimination in realising their basic human rights. This conference will look at how disabled children, young people and their families can be made a national priority in Wales and also the UK's reports to the United Nations on the rights of disabled children.
The aim of the conference is to ensure that disabled children and their families have the same access to everyday opportunities as other children and their families and that services and support is based within a social inclusion and rights based agenda.
The themes of the conference will include:-
- Why is the UNCRC failing disabled children?
- The rights to education, healthcare and being safe (safeguarding) for disabled children and young people.
- Young people's and parent's experiences
- What are the barriers and solutions to the fulfilment of disabled children's rights?
- What can we do to make things better?
