FRAGMENTS OF ASH powerful and disturbing drama Soar Centre - Penygraig 8th May 2012 - 7pm Tickets cost £5 adults & £2 concessions NOTIONAL THEATRE presents FRAGMENTS OF ASH Written and Directed by Terry Victor Music composed by Gareth Wyn Griffiths Movement direction by Kylie Ann Smith Fragments of Ash is an electrifying new play. Intelligent, physical theatre that addresses the news agenda and explores the domestic impact of war after war after war. A love story, measured in tragedies, which asks a shocking question: what would it take to make an ordinary British mother become a suicide bomber? Terry Victor, the writer and director behind this innovative touring production, has brought together a team that represents the very best of creative Wales. Gareth Wyn Griffiths is an inspired and respected musician and composer: he provides a score that is by turns minimal and cinematic, painting sound pictures of an imagined Afghanistan. Kylie Ann Smith is an emerging talent: her breath-taking choreography focuses on the emotional heart of a narrative that has been described as a ‘domestic Black Watch’. Reviews for Fragments of Ash include: “...the excellence and the beauty of the piece is very strong”. Theatre Wales; “…a supremely intelligent and very important piece of theatre.” Informed Edinburgh; “Spine-tingling and intense.” Three Weeks, Edinburgh; The serious intent of this powerful and disturbing drama can be measured by the involvement of BBC Wales’ newsreader Jamie Owen. Blending a compelling political narrative with an original music score, Fragments of Ash offers a rare opportunity to see home-grown Welsh theatre tackling serious contemporary themes head on. “Fragments may well be categorised as anti-war,” said the author Terry Victor, “to me, it is a play about mothers.” Tickets for Fragments of Ash are available now from ArtWorks To book call 01443 534 005 or online at www.ValleysKids.org Location : Penygraig Soar Centre Contact : 01443 534 005
