This August the Grand Pavilion Porthcawl will be celebrating 80 years of entertaining Welsh audiences and to celebrate the venue will be hosting a month of special events including a debut visit by Only Men Aloud.

This theatre was built in 1932 and the striking frontage with its octagonal dome has stood the test of time and is still one of the most recognisable sites on Porthcawl's sea front.

Only Men Aloud have sold out their first ever night at the pavilion and now play a second show on August 9th. But such a big birthday demands more than just a day of celebrations and the pavilion has a feast of special events from Friday 3rd August starting with the grand summer ball. The pavilion's sprung dance floor is justly famous and this years ball promises to be a glittering occasion with reigning British ballroom champs Warren and Kristi Boyce visiting for a night of ballroom magic.

The pavilion was designed as a palm court and tea dances have remained popular down the decades. A special 1930s themed tea dance on Tuesday 7th August will feature a palm court orchestra formed just for the occasion. On Wednesday 8th August you can see behind the scenes with a free open day with plenty to keep visitors entertained during the day. The celebrations wind up with two art events that showcase the importance of the community to the Grand Pavilion from Monday 13th August to Friday 17th August. The big picture will be asking locals to create their picture of the town and from Monday 13th to Sunday 19th August, the theatre's annual summer art show's appropriate theme is celebration.
