- Discrimination is treating people unfairly because of who they are and can be because of their race, gender, disability, marital status, sexual orientation or age
- It is against the law to discriminate against someone because of their race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origins, sex or sexuality. Currently it is not a crime to discriminate against someone because of their age
- Discrimination can be direct and obvious such as two people doing the same job but being paid at different rates because of their gender. It can also be indirect e.g. a job advert that asks for very specific things. Both types of discrimination are recognised under UK law
- It is wise to consider if any of the actions you take in your everyday life at work or in school or college could be considered as discriminatory
