A Chance To Teach Music
Want an in-depth look into being a Community Music Tutor?
Community Music Wales are pleased to tell you that now you can.
They are offering you the chance to attend their Tutor Training Course, that is open to anyone in South Wales.
The course will take place in Cardiff and run every Thursday from 5 May through to 28 July.
You will receive one full day of training every week, and there will be taught sessions and placements.
The course covers a wide range of theory and practice in community music, with practical workshops lead by professional community music trainers. You will be taught about a wide range of topics including group work skills, assertiveness, devising and adapting workshop material, facilitating client learning and growth.
You will be working with soft outcomes and transferable skills, an awareness of child protection, insurance, assessing basic skills, health and safety, equal opportunities, diversity and best practise.
This course is a valuable rehearsal for the job itself as the training is designed with a structure, method and ethos, which reflect the job of a community music tutor. All of CMWs’ courses are Agored Cymru accredited.
The training is based partly on self-assessment as trainees assess their own strengths and weaknesses. Each trainee will gain an appreciation and understanding of skills such as group dynamics and group processes.
CMWs’ tutors are skilled musicians who, through the training programme, have converted their skills to a credible and real work potential. Tutors range in age and backgrounds, but the one thing they have in common is that they are all committed to using music as a way of engaging people to make a real difference.
CMW has had a huge success rate in it’s training, with over 500 people going through their courses. Not only has the course benefited people in Wales, but it is also highly regarded internationally, with courses delivered to people in Latvia, Germany, Cuba, Israel, Canada and Bolivia over the past ten years.
The cost of the course is £80, or £50 for concessions. Application deadline is Monday 28 March. For more information and an application pack please contact Community Music Wales via email: admin@communitymusicwales.org.uk, or call 029 2083 8060.
