Fancy being the new Mark Kermode? Who wouldn’t, I mean look at his hair. Our good buddies at Chapter gave us a nudge about this fantastic competition for young and budding film journalists.

The BFI (that’s the British Film Institute) and Sight & Sound magazine are giving someone the chance to conduct an interview with a proper director at next month’s BFI London Film Festival and trust me, there’ll be some big guns present.

All you have to do is tell them the questions you would ask your dream director.

How do you tell them? Well I assume you email your questions to festival.education@bfi.org.uk, maybe nag them on Twitter that always goes down well (@SightSoundmag or @BFI)

There are of course a few rules and regulations:

  • Competition entrants must be aged 15-22. The competitions will have two winners: one in the 15-18 age group, one in the 19-22 age group.
  • You don’t need to have a background in film, but must be able to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the director you focus on in your competition entry
  • You might win! If so, you must be available to participate in a winning interview in Central London on Wednesday 17th, Thursday 18th or Friday 19th October - Limited travel bursaries are available
  • Entries must be received by 5pm on Monday 15th October

If you’ve got any queries about the Young Journalist Competition email festival.education@bfi.org.uk putting ‘Young Journalist Competition’ in the subject heading.

P.S. If you’re still wondering who the fudge Mark Kermode is then you could do worse than subscribe to the Kermode & Mayo's Film Review podcast. Or listen to it on BBC Radio 5Live. But I’d subscribe to the podcast as it's better; it has more reviews in it and less travel updates.
