Goldie Lookin Chain Strike Back
Love them or hate them, Welsh rapping sensations Goldie Lookin Chain never fail to produce humourous, catchy songs. Last week GLC released a spoof video on YouTube like no other - a parody of a parody.
The band, who became famous in 2004 following their no. 3 hit Guns Don't Kill People, Rappers Do, responded to the video
Newport (Ymerodraeth State of Mind) which was released a few months ago as a spoof to Jay-Z and Alicia Keys hit single New York (Empire State of Mind) and quickly went viral with over 2.6 million views. This version was removed by music bosses EMI following a breach of copyright last week.
However, before it was removed GLC posted their version of the song Newport State of Mind (You're Not From Newport) and that too became viral within hours.
Rhys, the main man in the video, talked to us about how it all came about.
"We just thought it would be funny to make the tune. Most people in Newport were kind of angry cause the people that made the original viral version were from Swindon. We just said what people were thinking. Its all in good humour though, its like the old hip hop battles but with out the guns and we're not from America.
Writing the words was easy cause I just picked up from where they had gone wrong with inaccurate references to Newport. Wrote and recorded it in a few hours and shot the video in 2 hours. Bosh!"
But is he worried his band's video will suffer the same fate as Ymerodraeth State of Mind?
"I'm sure it will. I'm sure their version will be released. I was speaking to people at EMI and they seemed to indicate that they were in talks with them."
GLC may have been quiet for a while but now they're back and full loaded; spoof videos, their second mixed tape and plenty more of their infamous Welsh rapping. Check out the video and tell us what you think. It's had mixed reviews on YouTube, what are your thoughts?

I just love how it ends with "and we got a Wetherspoons." :)

You have to give these huge record labels credit for their inexplicable fear of anything modern.
Record Boss 1: "Hmm, millions of people are watching a video based on a song we own. It's giving us masses of free publicity, and getting the tune stuck in everyone's heads."
Record Boss 2: "You're right. We could do absolutely nothing and still make massive profits, all on the back of a viral YouTube video."
Record Boss 1: "Or we could give those people jobs and the next time they write a hit we could cash in on it."
Record Boss 2: "OR we could spend loads of money on a team of lawyers who force YouTube to remove the video so no one can listen it. That way nobody would benefit and it would make people angry."
Record Boss 1: "Yes, let's just do that."
