I Got To Be The Presenter
WORDS: Sam Ebenezer
It was very nerve-wracking going to Cardiff to be a presenter for four days. I couldn’t really believe that I had won it. I was thrilled.
The SkillsCymru event was amazing. It was a great idea for people of all ages to discover what careers they should follow.
The filming started on Wednesday afternoon. Michelle (the other competition winner) and I were to make a short film for the Opening Ceremony.
It was to encourage people to turn up at the Millennium Stadium on the three days from Thursday 16 to Saturday 18 September.
Winning the Be The Presenter competition was a good opportunity and great experience. I had previously done some co-presenting, but nothing to this extent. Each day we filmed in two of the six different sectors: Engineering, IT and Business Administrations, Professional and Hospitality Services, Cultural and Creative Arts, Built Environment and Advice, Education and Training.
I found all of the sectors interesting in many different ways. I hadn’t anticipated the Engineering and Building zones to be so interesting and helpful. These zones, along with the Advice, Education and Training zone were good fun as they had many practical experiments, which made them enjoyable.
On the last day, Saturday, I got to open the CLIC Battle Of The Bands competition. I only got to see two of the bands and was very impressed by the standard. The winners The Hostages, from Llanidloes, got to play on the Skills Performing Stage, where Michelle and I introduced them.
To anyone that is interested in being a presenter I would fully recommend them to enter this competition if given the chance. I was glad that I had entered and had the fantastic experience.

It seems like you had an amazing time!
One question: You say you'd recommend we enter the competitionif given the chance, but where did you hear about from??
Many thanks :)

I saw you at the battle of the bands - you seemed to have an entourage worthy of Mariah Carey! How did you find that and all the busy agenda and strict timetable?
Also, we couldn't hear you introducing the bands - was there something up with the mic?
