Growing up with an illness that's invisible is hell.

It all started a couple of years ago where I was rushed in to Liverpool's Children Hospital, Alder Hey and I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis.

The condition, unheard of by most people, is a condition that doesn't have much visible symptoms.

That's the problem you see, 'no visible symptoms'.

When I'm unable to attend school because of the illness I often receive comments stating that "I look fine..." and "there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with you". Well, actually - there is!

The pain I feel when trying to prove my illness is awful. Having to repeat the words "I am ill, but you just can't see it" is getting ridiculous. Even teachers frown upon me going home from school, they tend to say, "well you looked fine this morning".

Coping with an incurable disease is hard enough without having to live every day trying to prove to people that I'm actually suffering.

It's true for anyone that's suffering from an illness/condition that's invisible. Some of these include Chron's, Cancer, Depression, Ulcerative Colitis... the list is endless.

Therefore the next time you judge a person for being ill, think about what illnesses are invisible.

Suffering is not always visible.
