Music Lessons
Should music be more relevant in teaching?
I think that young people should be supported to write music in different ways, because some schools only teach singing or choir practise, rather than different styles of songwriting or producing music.
All my life I've wanted to write my own songs. I haven't yet but with the help of music lessons in school I might have been able to.
I asked my school if they would help me and they said they couldn't because what they have to teach is set, but I think schools should involve young people more in music lessons.
It may get more young people interested and give them a better start.
What do you think? Should schools be more flexible with what styles and areas of music they teach? Please comment below.
Also, have a look at the music section of our info pages.

I think the best thing you can do is speak to your music teacher and find out the best direction beyond school. For example, what's the best college course for what you want and what qualifications would be best. It's also worth thinking beyond college, i.e. university. What music degree would be best, and how do you get on?

Great article, I totally agree.
I had a similar experience in IT when I was in school. I wanted to use some of my web design skills but was told this was not in the curriculum.
Keep doing what you are doing, and maybe look for some out of school help? There may be local organisations in your area who can help with music production and song writing.
