Yn Gymraeg

Just in case you haven’t heard (although you definitely should have by now) the EVI in Ebbw Vale is an amazing place to express yourself and start that project that's been sitting in the back of your brain.

I took a visit to the venue this week and I was blown away by the resources on offer. Whether it’s painting, producing music, performing or launching a campaign, this building is the platform you need to get started.

For young people, it’s not always easy to catch a break. But the EVI is designed for exactly that, to give people like us a chance to do what we’ve always wanted to do.

For the budding young entrepreneurs or campaigners, there are a huge variety of conference rooms at your disposal in a range of shapes and sizes. Maybe you are starting a charity group, are planning a party or just need a place to get a project underway, either way the EVI offers smart, professional and user-friendly spaces for anyone to get their hands on.

On the other hand, perhaps your ambition is much... louder! If you are thinking of starting a band, producing music or being a radio DJ, there is a media suite, complete with new Macs, music technology equipment, sound equipment, a drum kit and several guitars and basses for you.

This room, which is any young musicians dream, could cater for bands, MCs, DJs and up-and-coming radio moguls alike. This is the perfect opportunity for you to launch your music career and get it off to a flying start.

But is there a space for you to practice in? Well, yes. There is a fully soundproofed room that is made to not only hold in the sounds of even the thrashiest of thrash metal, but it also has a sprung floor to make it a perfect place for dance practice.

So if playing music isn’t your thing but you want to dance to it, this room is the one for you. Maybe you’re a graceful ballet dancer or a huge street dance crew, it doesn’t matter which because this room is good for everyone.

Regardless of whether you are a dancer or a musician, when you have perfected your art you probably want to share it with the world. The EVI is home to a fantastic hall with a stage, lighting and a fully licensed bar for the over 18s. Even if it’s not a musical event, the hall is a great space for groups to meet, or Amateur Dramatics Societies to get their acts together (pun intended).

For those of you whose musical dream is expanding, there is even a studio in the making. Although this section of the building isn’t yet complete, by the time you’ve written an album, rehearsed it to perfection and performed a few times, the studio will be waiting for you.

If so far you have read this and thought ‘Well that’s great but I’m not into all that stuff’, fear not. There is even an art room for you to take along your paints and make a giant mess in. It’s time to move on from the sketch pad and go big, and Mum’s carpet will not be damaged! This room was made for experiments and graffiti artists in the making.

After all the hard work of being creative, you’ll probably need refreshments. Well, EVI have thought of that too. There’s a cafe on site that serves hot and cold food and drink, so you can refill your tank and get the creative juices flowing again.

On the top floor of the building there are a number of youth workers and charities doing their thing. It’s these people and people like CLIC who can really help you with whatever it is you want to achieve. It might not be to do with arts, or recreational stuff, but these people are really friendly and there’s always someone to listen and help.

This building is a great place and everyone should get involved. Get down there and get creating.

This is really well written. You were great last week. Come back whenever you like! I'll send this around to everyone at EVI :)
