These were written at the CLIC Residential as part of the ACN in Creative Writing. More stuff from the residential to follow this week.

H.M.S Manchester Story

Recently I wrote a letter to H.M.S Manchester's captain to ask some questions about the crew, but mainly I wanted to know if they support Manchester United. I asked many other questions about the ship, where they were and what it's like being on ship and away from your family. I got a reply a week later from the captain and he answered most of my questions. He could not answer all of them since some of the questions could reveal sensitive information.

I found out that when the ship is docked near Manchester, and if there is a match on with the team that they support, then the whole ship's crew will be able to get free tickets. I also discovered they have travelled far and wide, although the captain did not divulge exactly where they have been.

I also received a very up-to-date picture of the ship while it was docked near Manchester; I felt very important and special with this reply and was also happy to read if I am ever near where the ship is docked the crew would be happy to meet me.

Jess' Iron Maiden Showing

Jess was really excited to be able to see Iron Maiden live in Cardiff. Even better she got in for free because her dad not only had a friend in the CIA but he also knew one of the band members very well as they grew up together and at one point used to jam together. They arrived at the CIA five minutes before the doors opened and stood in line to get in; they could hear the other people getting very excited about seeing the band.

When Jess and her dad finally got into the CIA they were told to go backstage; Jess was really happy and couldn't believe her luck while her dad was amazed to be able to see his old friend. They got back stage and straight away Bruce Dickinson came out with his guitar and played a personal song to Jess, she was blushing and was so amazed she froze up on the spot and for once in her life couldn't say a word.

Right after the song was finished you could hear the crowd calling to the band and Bruce told Jess and her dad to sit in the balcony nearest the stage. When listening to the band playing some of her favourite songs Jess was shocked once again when Bruce turned around and called out her name, the spotlight moved over to her and her dad was clapping and really enjoying the song.

When the show was over Bruce came over to the balcony and offered Jess and her father the chance to spend a bit of time with them backstage before they had to leave.
