My name is Aled and I did work experience at ProMo-Cymru this week. This is how it went:

Day 1
On Monday I was introduced to the people who work at ProMo-Cymru, and then I was told about what ProMo-Cymru does. I was shown around the building and then I was told about Health and Safety and the fire exits.

After that, I was shown how to use a Mac and then I was shown theSprout site, how to sign up, and how to create articles and comments. I spent about an hour exploring the site and commenting!

My first assignment was to make a Reading Power Virtual Book Club List poster in Photoshop. Everyone was impressed with it! The poster is now on the office wall and a copy of it has been sent to the council.

My second and last assignment for the day was to write an article on the Maindee 2012 Festival.

Day 2
On Tuesday I did a lot of office work. This included typing up lists of emails, submitting a lot of offline Red-Button questionnaires onto a website, and filing. I think I wrote an article about DoSomething.org as well.

I also helped sort boxes full of stuff like notepads, pens, magazines etc. when we came across a giant safe that was in the way, and it wouldn’t move at all, because it was so heavy! I found that hilarious.

I was allowed to take home one or two things out of the boxes I was carrying as a reward!

Day 3
On Wednesday I made a claymation showing the effects of magic mushrooms (exaggerated purposely for humour). Making it was fun, interesting and I was pleased with the result. You can view it here along with the article.

Later that day I used iMovie HD to edit and put together two interview videos. The content of the videos comprised of camera footage from the WOW Camp event. I had to go through a lot of videos, editing out footage that I wanted.

There was a rather important interview video that I wanted to use; however, the camera was flipped many times during the interview. I had to download a plug-in to flip around the video, and even then, it took a lot of editing to flip around the right parts.

I found the day very fun and challenging.

Day 4
I was ill on Thursday so I did not go in

Day 5
On Friday I finished off my video editing from Wednesday. I then had to write an article on a recent study on sexting.

My final task was to write about my experience at ProMo-Cymru (this article!).

In conclusion I have enjoyed my week at ProMo-Cymru and I wouldn’t mind doing it again! Everyone is nice there as well.

The question is how did anyone ever manage to get that thousand-ton thing (sounds like a great movie title) up two flights of stairs? We couldn't even move it by a millimetre! I'd definitely like to meet the Hercules who did it.

I was ill at the end of that week too - hope I didn't give you my dreaded Man Flu!

Was great to meet you. Will we be seeing you at the next Sprout Meeting in Cardiff Library? :)

Got something to say?
