Pencoed Youths Speak Out

Last January, Bridgend Youth Service teamed up with Youthworks to open a youth centre in Pencoed, which has a sizeable youth population. The centre is opened every Tuesday and Thursday evening and has attracted lots of young people from the area to use the IT facilities, pick up basic cooking and grooming skills, hang out with their friends over a game of pool or Wii or chat with the centre’s friendly staff.
On Thursday evening, CLIC ran a user session with a group of 11-17 year olds in the centre, some of whom had already heard of us through their schools. After a quick tour around the site, the young people registered as users and began to pen down their creations. This is what they came up with:
A Sister
A sister is family
A sister will be there for when things go wrong
A sister makes you smile when you’re down
A sister will be there for now and for always
A sister can never be removed from your heart

Being in a relationship
In some relationships the couples might argue. My boyfriend and I argue sometimes but I feel if you love each other arguments don’t matter. My boyfriend and I have been with each other for 1 year 2 weeks and 5 days. Relationships are not about being with the person you love everyday because sometimes although you want to be with them, they may have other plans.

Say no to Green
I think that taking drugs are bad even if they are not Class A ones, for example, green or otherwise known as marijuana or cannabis, Green is very bad and messes with your brain and mind. Also it may lead to other drugs if you get addicted to it because you tend to get bored of the drug and then move on to another one and then another and it is never-ending unless you stop your addiction. You tend to slowly move your way up to Class A drugs like heroin and cocaine, which then are worse than green and can kill you. Yes drugs can make you high and off your face and you make feel like it makes your parties but they actually slowly kill you.

An eventful day
Today I got dressed and get ready for school. Then I climbed over my school gate so I wouldn’t get caught because I was late. When I got into school the buzzer already went and I was in such a rush that I slipped and cut my head. There was blood everywhere everyone was laughing at me it was so embarrassing. When I went home, I decided to come to the youth club and that’s when I first heard of this site. I had to sign up straight away!

Happy to see that pencode now has their own youth center and that the young people of the area now have somewhere safe that thay can hang out safely and things that thay could do or get involved with.
