Popes Of Chillitown
The Popes Of Chilltown are a seven-piece London-based alternative rock band blending music from all members' various influences: ska, electro, indie, Britpop and many others.
They released their EP, Buy One Get One Free in November and?although a new band on the scene they?are making movements with songs being played on popular national radio shows.
Some good tunes here: huge beats and?ska rhythms all is soaked in an?electro vibe.
The self titled track opens to a great start, second track End 'Em All has a political and social conscience going on which proves that these guys can definitely hold a boss tune.
Vocal harmonies are apparent on Prove Me Wrong, with some great breakdowns and impressive saxophone solos.
The EP leans towards dub in some places -?especially on last song Who's To Say with its psychadelic guitar solos -but is distinctly British as a guest vocalist emerges?with some rapping.
Good stuff; post indie-boy Brit rock meeting in a dark alleyway somewhere in London, hitting the jugular vein of an electro DJ after a Specials gig. Reminds me of summer, for some reason.
For fans of : Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly, Long Beach Dub All Stars, Sublime, and?electro-alternative in general.
