Racism Is The Wrong Word
OK guys and girls, so I'm guessing that the title of this article has you rather confused, but it's in fact rather simple. I shall explain why I think that the term racism is the wrong word for being prejudiced or negative towards people of another faith, religion or skin colour.
Let's break the word racism down:
- Race - this is a species of beings, be it horses, monkeys or the human race
- Ism - this is the stereotypical nature or the negative nature towards an individual or group of individuals
OK now to go onto why Racism is the wrong word.
If you are negative towards someone who is from a Black or Minority Ethnic (BME) group then you are being colourist, not racist.
If you are negative towards someone who is from a different religion to you then you are being religionist, not racist.
However if you were being negative to another race of beings (mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles... you get the drift), then you are in fact being racist.
So that is my argument on the word racism and I hope you all understand why I have written it.
