Rock Rave. What is it? Well I'll tell you.

Rock Rave is an Urban Circle event that houses music and performances for young people, by young people, and the occassional professional artist.

The event was held on Friday 25 November in the Newport Leisure Centre.

From the outset there were hundreds of young people from accross Torfaen and Newport, all of whom who have come to experience the works of these incredible artists.

They started the night with a bit of a DJ, Mr Mac Hurt, and had a host called Shi. The acts included Flo Dem, Estoria KH, The Trinity Band, Our Tomorrow, and many more.

The music was of an inspirational nature, inspiring the young people present to support their musical heritage. We also had acts such as dance-offs, and even a fashion show from Newport University.

Also in the mix were a group of four lads: one rapper and three talented beatboxers. Tthe quality of all the acts at Rock Rave was of a high standard. The majority of them were between the ages of 12 and 25.

The musical style of the evening was not rock or rave persay, but more of an urban influence and basically what the young people felt like performing. About halfway through the night we had an intermission where the band crews cleared the stage and prepared for the next acts.

After the intermission we had works from a talented rock band, followed by a rather funny duo, and the some breakdancing and BMXing, follows by another dance-off, and then a bit of hip hop and rap.

The final few acts were quite mellow in nature, I'm guessing to mellow out the young people so that they would appreciate the song more. I certainly found the music at this time to be beautiful and inspiring.

The final act to come on was a magnificent group that play some cracking tuneage, the name of which escapes me, followed by TP (Twist & Pulse) the Britain's Got Talent finalists.

All in all the event was a good, fun night for all who performed and were present. The general atmosphere was a happy one, with young people being able to express themselves freely and without persecution.

Peace all, Eddie.
