The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) are making a proposal to the National Assembly for Wales for a new Measure, relating to the United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child (UNCRC).

This would be called the Rights Of Children And Young Persons Wales Measure, on which WAG would like to hear your views.

In the consultation document WAG have tried to explain, as simply and clearly as they can, what the Measure would do and they think it is a good idea.

The Government believes that the proposed new law is a good way of making sure that it will try even harder than before to help children and young people to access the rights which are set out in the UNCRC, as a step towards them all achieving well-being.

These proposals will only become law for Wales if the National Assembly agrees and the Queen agrees to them. In the meantime WAG want to know what the public - including children and young people - thinks about the proposed new Measure.

They will then look at what people have said and decide whether they should change anything in the proposal, before asking the National Assembly For Wales to agree to it.

Please have a look at the proposal and respond before the closing date of Friday 7 May 2010.
