Strikes Hit Wales

Yn Gymraeg

As many of you already know, there's a strike going on all over the UK.

There are roughly 170,000 workers in Wales alone are participating in industrial action over the pension charges. Public sector workers argue that these changes to their pension will result in them needing to pay more into their pensions while working longer for less.

The result of this strike to us common folk? Well, for starters many libraries and waste collection services have been affected, while all services provided by Cardiff Bus are cancelled.

Not only that, but the biggest headache could possibly be that more than 1,500 schools are expected to be closed in Wales, with every school in Blaenau Gwent, Carmarthenshire, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot and Rhondda Cynon Taff closed too.

Regarding the school closures, the guys at NUT Wales state that their decision to strike was not made lightly, with one member stating that "this is not action that we desire and even at this stage we would like the government to say they want to talk." While on the other hand, the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has said that the UK government offer was "generous".

And this is the subject matter that we'd like you to discuss. How is the strike affecting you? Are you half way through your GSCEs, A-Levels or university course and find it frustrating that you're losing a day of learning? Do you back the decision of the teachers and other strikers? Or are you just happy that you can spend all day in bed? Let us know in the comment section.

Alternatively, if your fingers are itching for a workout, why not write for this year's CLICmas?

I wish they chose a better day to strike. We have half days on Wednesdays in college so it isn't really impacting us that much.

The only bad thing that's come of this is the amount of work my lecturers have given me because we've got a day off :( soooooo much work :(!

With not being in school at the moment, it doesn't really effect me but my friends at school have said it's a relief because they're so stressed with the mock exams for GCSEs so they've all decided to either rest all day, revise all day or half and half it.

If it were me, I would've revised all night last night, rested all day today and then gone over my notes this evening. And there's no Eastenders tonight that would've distracted me. x

Personally i think Striking is Rediculous, for starters if you strike you dont get paid for that day, now i dont know about you, but i would rather work and get paid that go and walk the streets on a Very cold Wednesday for no pay, so i say Sack the Strike, peacefully protest in work, not on the streets or at home, but at work where you will still get paid to do it, hell, i always loved it on strike days when i was working as a caretaker, coz while the other caretakers were striking i was in work getting paid Scab Labour pay (Thats Double), the school didnt mind coz they still had the job done, i didnt mind coz i was still getting paid anyways, sure i support the fact that there are Job Cuts, Pay Cuts and Reductions to Pensions, but thats a Fact of Life and a Fact of the Failing Economy that we have, if we want our economy to rise we shouldnt be striking and loosing out on our pay, and completely disrupting the country and its economy, we should be going to the other European Countries that have borrowed Capitol from the UK and get that money back, make them payback their debts, thats the problem to our economy, and the sollution is getting it all back, another sollution, may seem drastic but increase tax. (now this is where your gonna say NOOOOO but stick with me) increase the TAX, but not for you and me, but for the bank bosses who give themselves Millions of Pounds of bonusses each year, hell they dont do have the work that the rest of the work force do, do they, so TAX them through the nose, if they give them self £3,000,000 in a bonus take abour £1,500,000 from them to go as tax, they dont need 3mil, what are they gonna spend it on, another house in the bahamas, HA, thats increasing that countries economy, they have enough, its us that need it, sink those funds into more jobs for people, i dont know about you but i wouldnt mind a full time job, and i think that only a fraction of that amount would pay for one for me, all i ask in life is a job that pays £22,500 a year, thats not too much to ask for is it, coz thinking about it i would only see about £18,000 after tax, and thats not much, £1.5m will pay for a job for 10 people over 10-15 years, and thats quite a few people in work if you ask me. oh well little rant over, but year, SACK the STRIKE,

Personally, I am glad that there was a strike today because I had a day of catching up on some of my coursework! However, I don't know why all these workers feel the need to strike, will it actually accomplish a lot, if anything?
