The Filter Is Coming...
Don’t you just love it when someone dictates to you? Thinks they know better because they’re “older and wiser” and everything they say is right? No? Us neither.
That’s why we’re creating The Filter in a different way, in a way that gives you the knowledge to make decisions from the facts for yourself. No one around here is going to tell you what you should or shouldn’t do, we just want to give you the info to make your own choice, it’s your life after all.
The Filter is a Wales-only, bilingual information and advice service about tobacco. We’re not here to moan to you about the dangers of smoking because everyone knows that smoking kills - half of regular and ex-smokers die from smoking-related illnesses - but we want to give you the facts and filter out the myths about tobacco. We’re just saying that if you’re going to do it, do it with informative, accurate knowledge on what you’re doing. You wouldn’t write a story without an idea.
TheFilterWales.org (neu TheFilterCymru.org yng Gymraeg) is our website which houses tonnes of facts, campaigns, news stories and general information on anything to do with smoking, from “what is shisha?” to “the cost of smoking.” Launching along with the website will be an information and advice service, which will have free and confidential phone and text numbers as well as an instant messenger that will be available from the website. Our people will be here to advise and direct you on your tobacco or quit smoking queries.
There’s an opportunity on the site for you to win some great prizes by making a two-minute short film about the impact of smoking. In conjunction with Cut Films, we want to see what you guys think of smoking by making an advert you’d want to show to your friends. Be creative with your knowledge and you could win big. There’s also an interactive news section where you can send us your stories, blogs, articles or pictures that relate to tobacco or your personal experiences. You could even start a campaign in your area or school and tell us about it!
Our website is launching on Thursday 10th January along with the advice service and to celebrate we’re having a big launch party at Cathays Community Centre in Cardiff. There’s going to be bands, dancers, beatboxers, food, workshops and it’s all for free. You can sign up for tickets here or contact Ryan, as CLIC will be there too.
Come along - get involved - get the truth - have your views heard.
