Band merchandise is everywhere isn’t it? It’s on every street corner, constantly catching your eye with eye-popping logos. Well they did, until the sequins and ‘retro’ look came into play in this contemporary fashion-orientated dive known as Britain.

One of the things that annoys me is how so many inspirational musical figures have had their faces rammed onto t-shirts and then given a ‘vintage’ look by it being weathered away.

I find this a little remedial, why ruin good clothes? I’m not talking about keeping clothes bright with cartoons on them! By all means, society shouldn’t go back to the “Scene Kid” phase. Remember them? Awful weren’t they?! But I think taking famous pictures, fading them out then planting them in a portrait box on a t-shirt that’s (usually) neutral and selling it to people is horrible. Why? Well, because people are stupid (admit it, they’re dumb) they buy these t-shirts because of the way they look, and parade around pretending they know what’s actually on the t-shirt.

For instance, a classic t-shirt that looks like somebody puked glitter on, is a black t-shirt that had the contours of The Doors’ late singer Jim Morrison on. People bought it and when you asked them what was on their t-shirt, they’d probably exploded with stuff like “Erm, well it’s this man yeah, he sang or acted in something and then died because society is corrupt man” as if they are Neil out of The Young Ones on Question Time.

Another example of this is people wearing Guns N’ Roses tops that are faded. Yet other than the song Sweet Child O’ Mine they are clueless to any other history or songs by the band. Seriously! And then there’s the highly depressing matter for of people wearing Nirvana clothing. It’s so annoying. Damn you Topshop!

'contemporary fashion-orientated dive known as Britain' - I definitely agree with that! That's why everything is messed up from body image to people being skint just to get new trends!

I do agree with most of it, people buying something because Kate Moss was seen wearing a tee with a face on means kids need to do the same, there is a difference between wearing something because of your love for them and doing it because you think you should... FAB article! :)

Got something to say?
