Welsh Language Resi
Following two previous successful years, DofE Wales will be running a Welsh-language residential at the Glan Llyn Urdd Gobaith Cymru centre between 18 and 22 August 2013.
This course will be open to DofE Gold Award participants aged 16-25 who are Welsh speakers or Welsh learners.
The cost will be £60 per person.
To register an interest or to book a place on the course, please contact Ian Gwilym at DofE Wales on ian.gwilym@DofE.org.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in Wales have been increasing the amount of young people it reaches out to by delivering a course to Urdd staff members at the Glan Llyn Urdd centre, near Bala.
The Expedition Accredited Assessor course gives leaders an understanding of the assessment criteria for expeditions at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels and leaders take away skills and knowledge to help support young people undertaking their DofE expeditions.
The course run by DofE Wales was entirely through the medium of Welsh, and the Urdd Centre staff found the training immensely useful. This will now allow them to support young people aged 14-25 through the Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE programmes who undertake Welsh-language residentials, volunteering and physical activities at their three centres at Llangranog, Glan Llyn and the Wales Millennium Centre.
The DofE is run throughout a number of schools, youth groups and youth centres across the UK and at present approximately 11,500 young people are doing their DofE in Wales alone.
Many Welsh-medium schools offer the DofE to their participants and the Wales DofE Region are aiming to increase this considerably so that young people can access the DofE in Welsh through other groups and organisations
